The BLYC Calendar is now online....
We are now using a Google Calendar on the website to help keep you informed of the latest events and activities at the Club. Events are color coded so that you can always know what is going on. In addition to Club activities, Andrea is also putting the private parties up on the calendar so you know if there's another large event taking place when making your plans to come out. Of course, remember that members are always welcome to use the Club, even during outside events. The staff is happy to accomodate you.
CLUB EVENTS - red
SAILING EVENTS - green
OTHER EVENTS (meetings, etc.) - gray
PRIVATE PARTIES - yellow
You can access the calendar by clicking on the "Our Club" tab above and then selecting "Calendar" in the drop-down menu. Please let us know what you think of this service. Your feedback is always welcome.

P/C Frank Foster, III has been hard at work again adding more photos to the online history archives. Member Wes Cartwright was good enough to share with us photos taken and collected by his father Lou. Lou was an active sailor and member of BLYC in the 1970's and 80's and served on the Board of Governors.
Lou passed away in February 2010 in Florida. Thank you Wes for sharing this piece of our Club's history with us!

| I-LYA Spring Meeting |
11:06 AM, Mar 18 2010 |
| What is I-LYA... and why do I pay them a buck every year? |
 |
The Inter-Lake Yachting Association is a an association of around 150 Yacht and Boating Clubs throughout the Lake Erie Region. BLYC is one of the oldest members, and the first "inland" club, joining in 1907.
It is through our association with I-LYA, that, among other things, our Junior Sailors race in the Travelers Series, Junior Bay Week, and the US SAILING Championships ladder events. Additionally, our membership in I-LYA assures recognition of and reciprocity to BLYC, and you as a BLYC member, among other Clubs when you travel.
|
|
I-LYA runs three regattas annually at Put-in-Bay: Junior Bay Week, with which most of our members are likely familiar; the I-LYA Powerboat Regatta in late July; and, the I-LYA Sail Regatta the first weekend of August. More information on these events can be found on the I-LYA website at www.i-lya.org
I-LYA meets as a group twice each year, in the spring and fall. The spring meeting is coming up the weekend of April 9-11 in Perrysburg, Ohio. This is always a fun weekend, and a great opportunity to learn more about the opportunities I-LYA offers you as a member and meet new people and share experiences with other boaters and sailors. All members of I-LYA Clubs are members of I-LYA and welcome to attend these meetings and events. More information is on the I-LYA website.
Oh, and that dollar?....
BLYC is a "dollar-per-member-Club" member of the Inter-Lake Yachtsmans Fund, the charitable 501(c)3 associated with I-LYA. The Yachtsmans Fund promotes sailing and boating, particularly for youth throughout the region. Your dollar helps to insure that these activities which we all enjoy today will be here for future generations to come. If you would like more information on the Fund, or to donate to the fund yourself, please visit http://i-lya.org/pages/yachtsmans-fund.php

Halloween Party - $1.50 per Couple
Well, in 1948 perhaps.
P/C Frank Foster, III has been hard at work updating the online Digital BLYC History Archives. In addition to scanning in the 2009 issues of The Log, he has come across some real history gems and put them on the site as well... Including the October 1948 Log announcing a Halloween Party for just $1.50 per couple! My how things have changed.
CLICK HERE to visit the BLYC History page. The Digital Archives are near the bottom of the page and include old issues of The Log, old photos, and even a Club directory from 1948-49.
Thanks Frank for all your continued work!
