The Buckeye Lake Yacht Club has an active sailboat racing program, continuing a long history of sailing & sailing success by BLYC members. BLYC is proud to have had among its membership many top sailors including National Champions, Americas Cup Sailors and winners of U.S. SAILING trophies. CLICK HERE for a partial list.
Our racing program currently includes three active one-design fleets and a PHRF (handicapped) fleet. Specific information on each fleet can be found HERE.
Our main racing series each season is the Commodore Chris J. Lambrecht Cup Series, named for one of BLYC's dear Past Commodores who was a very active sailor his entire life - even into his 90's! Most fleets race on Sunday afternoons, although it is up to each fleet to decide when they will race. Boats in one-design fleets race head-to-head, while the PHRF fleet is scored under a handicapping system to accomodate different boat designs. The winners of each fleet then compete for the Cup.
In addition to the "Sunday Series," we also hold three Long Distance Races in coordination with the three main holiday weekends at the Club; Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. These races are open to boats of all classes and scored under a handicapping system (PHRF).
The Club also hosts several regattas each year:
- "Mean Green" Thistle Regatta (April)
- BLYC Junior Regatta (summer)
- Snowball Regatta (1st Weekend of October)
- Thistle District Fall Finale Regatta (October)
These regattas attract sailors from all over the Lake Erie region to our Club to race.
