Gybing an A-Sail

– by David Paligo

It appears that several BLYC teams want to fly spinnakers this year, either Symmetrical or Asymmetrical. Many have been asking about “How to Gybe an Asymmetrical Spinnaker”… there are two ways, an inside gybe and an outside gybe. Here is a YouTube that shows how to do them. I’ll let you decide which method is best for you & your crew. Be sure to practice both.

The Story of the Phoenix

– by Bill Collinson

This past fall, Bill Collinson rescued an older Thistle sailboat from the Eastport boatyard.  This boat (Hull # 3015) was owned and sailed by BLYC junior sailor Austin Miller for several years around 2010 in the I-LYA Traveler Series and Junior Bay Week regattas.  After moving on from junior sailing, Austin donated the boat to the BLYC junior program and, unfortunately, it has sat unused since.  Bill, along with David Paligo spent much of this past winter restoring – resurrecting – this boat.  Look for it on the water at the Mean Green Regatta on Buckeye Lake on April 24th this year!

Thank you Bill for contributing to the “SLOG.”
